Because of poor oral health may be associated with several complications of pregnancy, most doctors and dentists recommend that you visit your dentist for a routine inspection at least once during your pregnancy. Dental care is considered as an important part of your pregnancy care. If possible, also a good idea to have a routine examination before becoming pregnant so that any problems can be resolved without posing risks to infants.

As with any type of medical treatment, let your dentist know you are pregnant before you start checking or when making an appointment. He can ask how far along you are to help determine what they feel is appropriate for you. They may recommend waiting several months until later in your pregnancy or until after you have submitted (assuming you do not have any concerns and delivery is not too far).

There are still debates about whether a woman should get a dental x-rays during pregnancy. It is important to discuss the x-rays and other dental care with your OBGYN and dentists before receiving any. Working together with your health care provider with any concerns you have.

As usual, the best treatment is prevention when it comes to oral health. Brush and floss regularly, especially if you experience vomiting at any time during your pregnancy. Doing so can reduce the influence of gastric acid in your mouth. Although it is not uncommon to have sore or bleeding gums during pregnancy or even toothache (you can thank for that hormone changes), it is important to let your healthcare provider know so that they can handle any issues that require attention.
