The main symptoms

The disease primarily affects animals living in community (cattery, shelter, “large family” semi-wild cats), kittens and unvaccinated adults. After a short incubation (2 to 5 days), respiratory signs (coughing, sneezing), the runny eyes and nose, loss of appetite and sometimes red spots appear in the mouth, more or less significant depending animals.

If several cats have the same symptoms at the same time, it is likely that this is the coryza is a highly contagious disease. Contagion occurs (like flu in humans), without direct contact, sneezing or when cats are blown over. The transmission can also be done by the person caring for several cats, including one patient. Hence the importance, if we have several cats, putting on a blouse to care for sick, well disinfect their hands afterward, and isolate the sick cat other throughout the treatment period, however, do not panic, this disease is not communicable to humans.

The untreated disease may progress to natural healing in some resistant animals. But beware it can sometimes be complicated by necrosis of the nasal bones with generalized infection, and eventually death of the animal if it is weakened and refuses to eat.

Malignant Catarrhal fever is a common disease in cats. It is very complex because it is not due to a single infectious agent, but the association of several viruses and bacteria. Three viruses are involved in coryza cat and they all cause different symptoms:

• A virus of the family “herpes virus” causing an infection of the nose, respiratory tract and eyes. Symptoms vary depending on the cat’s age and his health. In young, they cause coughing, sneezing, significant discharge from the eyes and nose, conjunctivitis and weak general condition (loss of appetite and fever). In adults, it usually causes only a severe conjunctivitis with ulceration of the cornea.

This is the most dangerous viruses. It can be fatal in animals weakened if it does not establish an early treatment.

• A Calicivirus also causing fever and depression, runny nose and eye-especially ulcers in the mouth (sharp red patches on the tongue or gums). These mouth sores are painful and cause significant salivation and loss of appetite.
• A Reovirus. In these viral attacks, there are the bacteria that often superimposed and cause complications in the already debilitated cats: pus in the eyes and nose. However, a bacterium enters the description of coryza. It is chlamydia. It is very contagious and the disease is especially serious when the cats are young. The secretions flow from the eyes can coupling the two eyelids drying.

Among the most common ailments are nasal sinusitis, allergic rhinitis and coryza, as complete and definitive cure can be achieved through natural methods of treatment.

In sinusitis, an inflammation of the sinuses, usually caused by prolonged or chronic colds, for the most community of allergies and, less commonly, infections of the roots of the teeth – a blockage occurs in the nasal passages with storage of fluid secretions in the head, which causes pressure sores on cheek bones and the root of the nose, intensified when the patient leans forward. The condition can also be accompanied by mild fever and, if chronic bad breath and permanent hoarseness.
