Chemotherapy is one of the methods used to combat leukemia and, in general, all types of cancer. Involves the application of specific drugs intensively. Used more than 50 different drugs to prevent the growth, multiplication and dissemination of cancer cells. Usually performed before surgery, but also combined with surgery and radiotherapy. His prescription arises through the application of advanced technology and complex chemical mixtures, but things do not enough if the chemotherapy fails to materialize in the precise dose.

Not everyone absorbs the chemicals at the same speed. Today scientists are working especially in the doses specified.

According to a study by American researchers, leukemia can be treated more efficiently with a new chemotherapy merits.

According to a recent study conducted by six doctors from the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Tennessee, Memphis, United States, the tough battle with leukemia is much more likely to win if applicable merits.

So far, the only change in dose was determined by the size of the body surface of each patient. However, according to the group of scientists, led by Dr. William Evans, is another key issue: to consider that not all people absorb drugs at the same speed, some drug assimilate much faster or slower than others. This is what is known as bioavailability.

To reach these conclusions, the scientists compared the application of conventional chemotherapy, versus an individualized application of the mechanism.
Five years of treatment

To check your assumptions, the professionals at the University of Tennessee divided into two groups for 182 children suffering from leukemia. The first were treated with chemotherapy classical and the latter, with the new modality.

After five years of study and analysis, concluded that individualized treatment is actually much more effective against childhood leukemia. The disease disappeared completely in 76% of cases in children who were treated individually. In the group of minors who applied conventional chemotherapy, the leukemia was gone at 60%.

After those results, Dr. Evans concluded that “the study shows that classical chemotherapy sometimes fails because patients receive inadequate doses of drugs, not because leukemia is resistant to those drugs, as I used to think.”

The study also concluded that the specialized treatment reduces, in many cases, medication side effects of chemotherapy.

Cancer cells grow and develop rapidly, therefore used drugs tend to attack rapidly growing cells. Sometimes these cells are normal human body. Hence the side effects arise, which can be translated into:

Nausea.

Vomiting.

Fatigue.

Baldness

Decrease in number of red blood cells in the blood.

Decreased sperm.

Some chemotherapies are so powerful that require the patient regularly for a few days interne in the center physician. In those cases, side effects tend to diminish if implemented personalized medicines.

Anyway, not over-take the necessary precautions, which are:

Rest and following a diet rich in protein and calories.

Visit your dentist before starting treatment, because chemotherapy tends to create a special sensitivity in the mouth.

If possible, take a course of relaxation, because you must be psychologically prepared to keep the strength to face treatment.

The relaxation and breathing techniques are usually very close, and relaxation exercises begin work on respiration. Once that is achieved adequate respiration are ready to proceed with the relaxation exercise in itself.

Yoga practitioners are well aware that the main thing in all the exercises is to achieve a relaxed breathing, slow and deep and that the more you work on breathing best results are obtained irrespective of the relaxation exercise is made below.

A breath control is a good strategy to cope with stress and regulate physiological changes produced by this type of emotional disorders.

A breathing exercise that we can practice at home is intended to lead inspired air to the bottom of the lungs. For this rests a hand on her belly and one in the stomach. By breathing we achieve that moves the hand on the belly, while the other hand should be moving. It seems difficult at first but we can control this technique after 15 or 20 minutes of practice.

The next step is to learn to direct air to the intermediate zone of the lungs. Is equal to the previous year just that once filled the lower air, the air is carried into the middle of the lungs, through the movement of the hands we realize where it is headed the air we breathe.

The next step is to completely fill the lungs with air in its three sections, low, medium and high. First the abdomen, then the stomach and finally the chest.

Following this we learn to exhale fully, to expel all air. It exhales a bit closed lips so as to produce a low whistle.

After these steps we can start with relaxation, and we will be much more willing and prepared to do it if we ideal breathing.

In recent years the words “tension“, “anxiety” and “stress” have entered our everyday language to describe certain states often suffer disturbing, especially those who live in big cities.

Tension and anxiety are normal psychophysiological mechanisms that are activated for our body and mind to be alert so that we can meet our daily activities, you can even say that the need for life. “Stress” is a controversial term, but it could easily be defined as an altered state resulting from imbalance between the demands of the environment, whether real or subjective, and resources available to us to face them.

It was once thought that stress, anxiety and stress suffered only the top executives and business people with great responsibilities, were associated with a type of work and a high socioeconomic level, but today we know that this is not true; everyone from children to old, rich and poor, at some point in our lives we have to deal with situations that disturb us physically and emotionally, indeed, it may be stressed and tense is already part of everyday life.

What is alarming is that stress and anxiety affect the health and quality of life of those who suffer and those around them, because a person who can not handle these situations contaminated with their concern and irascible character to his family and their classmates or work.

It is known that some physical ailments can have a strong emotional component and that those who suffer chronic diseases experience tension and anxiety that impede the healing process itself.

At some point, everyone in situations like school exams, job interviews, economic crises, work and interpersonal conflicts, to the daily problems or simply when things do not go our way, we can feel:

Rapid pulse

Rapid breathing, irregular and shallow.

Contracted muscles, tense shoulders, neck and back.

Restlessness.

Perspiration and heat.

Frequent urination.

Lack of coordination.

Dry mouth, thirst.

Fatigue or low energy.

Headaches.

Feeling of discomfort or heaviness.

Stomach or lack of appetite.

Irregular sleep.

Skin rashes.

Among others, these are symptoms of stress, and generally, as stated by Dr. Erika Cabrera, a psychologist specializing in psychophysiology (discipline that studies the biology of behavior and psychological processes) and neurofeedbac (treatment to help you develop strategies to modify and train brain activity), are accompanied by negative emotions such as disapproval author, exaggeration, sterile anguish, distress, irritability, fear, loathing or disgust, shyness, depression, apathy, hopelessness, guilt and frustration.

Whom does relaxation techniques?

Dr. Erika Cabrera works with patients trying to manage anxiety and stress through therapies that involve the body. And while coordinating its work with a group of colleagues and psychiatrists, it is interesting that many of their patients are, in turn, referred by other physicians, and dermatologists (specialist in skin conditions) and gastroenterologists (specialists in stomach), that after having ruled out or treated the physical origin of disease, want their patients to learn relaxation techniques to manage their stress levels, anxiety and stress. Another important group of patients suffering from different disorders ranging from obsessive compulsive disorder to bulimia and anorexia, as well as children with attention deficit. Relaxation techniques can also help those who are about to stop treatment with anxiolytics and faces the fear of living without drugs.

What are relaxation techniques?

The experience has led me to reduce technical and especially adapted to each patient, the doctor explains. For example, the best known are those of Edmund Jacobson, the father of muscle relaxation, but their method is very complex and it takes about 55 sessions to feel a real effect on the body. I lie is clear that older perform better, but it is very difficult for someone to agree to take as many sessions, because the obvious answer is that no time or money, whether we’re talking about a person is usually restless , restless, always with the watch in his hand, and say that will sit and take the time to do a long series of exercises, which is more complicated.

But a simple technique that you yourself can do on your own is one that works seven muscle groups, thus the whole body relaxes and is called ‘progressive muscle relaxation’, plus or deep diaphragmatic breathing. If relaxation techniques were part of the knowledge taught in school we would have a more peaceful and pleasant.
